Welcome to the 20th stop on the EYMM 2nd Anniversary Blog Tour! I hope you have been enjoyed the past week of posts featuring some of our favorite EYMM patterns. Today I am going to be featuring the Calla Lily Skirt, which I have been enjoying all summer! Be sure to scroll all the way through for a change to win some great prizes!
The Calla Lily Skirt has been on my “Summer Wardrobe” Pinterest board since snow was still on the ground up here. I just knew it would make a perfect summer skirt. I was very excited to participate in this tour since for once I was not reviewing something new I made or something I had tested…but about something I had been wearing and enjoying for quite awhile now!
The Calla Lily Skirt by EYMM is made for knits. There are two length options and three waist band options. (fold over, regular and exposed elastic) The skirt sizes range from XS-5X. The skirt wraps across the front and is long in the back. This makes for an interesting, flowing skirt. I chose the shorter length skirt option. I used a soft, slinky poly lycra knit from Joann’s for the skirt and medium weight cotton lycra for a regular waist band. I did not use elastic on my skirt. I did not make any adjustments to the pattern. I simply followed my measurements on the size chart.
Printed the pattern is very simple. There are no layer options on this pattern. However, I print in black and white and it was still very easy to see where I needed to cute for my size. The pattern is also nested in two groups, the misses and plus sizes. This does cut down on the amount of lines and paper you will use. Even with that said, you will need to move the coffee table and clear some room when you start to assemble your pattern! The pattern piece is very large, but luckily there is only 1 piece! And you only need to cut that one piece on the fold, and your waistband and you are ready to sew! Another thing I wanted to mention is that there are shorten/lengthen lines on the pattern piece! This is so helpful for anyone who usually needs to adjust the length since this pattern piece is very uniquely shaped!
One you have your two pattern pieces cut from the fabric you are ready to sit down and sew your skirt. This skirt is such a quick sew. You only need to sew the waist band to the skirt and finish the hem. Since my skirt was slinky knit and didn’t roll I left it as is. Is has been washed and worn many times and still looks just fine!
I have greatly enjoyed wearing this skirt all summer. I have worn it with a nice black top and dress sandals for a night out. I have thrown it on over my swim suit to the pool. Mostly I wear it with a tank and flip flops. I really love how it feels to walk and the skirt billow out. It is very cool and comfortable! If you had been looking for a quick yet versatile skirt pattern I highly recommend the Calla Lily!
